A year ago I decided to give the vegan lifestyle a try while taking my fitness a step further and training to compete in my first Musclemania bikini show. I had my doubts in my ability to reach my fitness goals with a vegan diet, but with the help of my trainer we began the process.
A question I get asked frequently is where do I get my protein from.
I want to share with you a few protein sources my trainer, Tiffany Flora (Against All Odds Fitness) created for me in replace of animal protein. Depending on your personal plan, it is important to aim for the same total amount of macros and protein.
Below is a list of my favorite vegan protein sources that will keep you full and satisfied:
Black Beans 1 cup = 210 calories, 46g carbs, 14g protein
Chickpeas 1 cup = 220 calories, 36g of carbs, 12g protein
Quinoa 1 cup = 220 calories, 39g carbs, 8g protein
Tofu 4 oz = 107 calories, 4g carbs, 12g protein
Tempeh 4 oz = 230 calories, 16g carbs, 22g protein
